Customer Question

In a Jaguar 2000 XK8 how to replace hidraulic oil for convertible top

Country: United States
Make: Jaguar
Model: xk8
Year: 2000

Already Tried:
I was having problems with the top to close so I use the manual tool from the trunk from that day the top closes very slow and it seems to be very tied from the sides when it tries to close. It raises half or quater and stops. I have to get off the car and pull it by hand closes to the lacht and then push the top along with the inside swich. Fuses are good only I need to know how to check and replace the hidraulic oil. Is it difficult to do?

Hello and welcome to justanswer.com

First I recommend we check the fluid level and condition in the pump reservoir behind the carpet cover in the passenger side trunk. I do see issues with the lines leaking at the front of the latch in the header as well as the top pistons. If you see fluid in the over head console then the lines are leaking. If there is fluid in the rear seat area then the pistons are leaking. If the fluid is thickened you need to remove the pump off the bracket to drain and fill it. The fluid is a Pentosin CHF 11 fluid.

I am satisfied with your answer. Thanks.... Will you agreed with if I replace the main swicht power driver window will resolve the problem as well? I am having problems with windows in the way that when I turned car off and I closed my door the window

is out of the windowframepreventing from closing where now I am making sure it closeswell other ways it kills my battery. I noticed-heard that when I am closing the top from the inside switch the power gets very poor-decreased...therefore my question if window main control switch anything to do with closing top?

Can you explain your window problem again for me? Is this the driver front window only. Does the window lower properly but going up the back of the glass comes up at an angle?

Customer replied367 days and 7 hours ago.

Yes. Only the drivers window. Tx

Did you get my response about the driver front window lower going up the back of the glass comes up at an angle? Where I confirmed as Yes. Thanks

Ok. This is usually caused by the window regulator retainers coming loose or the regulator mounting nut loose for that rear support. We will need to remove that door panel to check this. I will supply you with the instructions.

Thank You!

FIrst remove the screw cover on the inside door handle and remove that screw. Next you need to pull off the small piece of leather trim just under the switch pack in the door pocket. That piece will pop out as it's held in by one clip. Then you will see a Phillips screw that needs to be removed to pull out that switch pack. You will then see another Phillips screw that needs to be removed. Then the panel will pull out with a panel tool as it is held in by retainers.

I did solve the issue about my convertible top by removing the pump off the bracket to drain and fill it with the Pentosin CHF 11 fluid you recommended. Thank you so much!

While cleaning the passenger seat I pressed my elbow agains the Gear box and accidentally push the Cruise botton down then I tried to open the first black cover where the letters P, R N and D are and I broke part of the black cover near to the P. Can you give me a better advise in how to open it so that I can bring the switch where it should be without going to the dealer?

You need to remove that black plastic shifter bezel. Most times the retainers break off that shifter bezel when removing it. The retaining tabs are located in the four corners of the shifter bezel. First tape the wood and use a flat blade tool sliding it between the plastic bezel and the woodgrain. I use a small plastic wedge tool which works great in doing this.
