1986 XJ6: LITER..cylinder..it turns over but no spark from plugs

Resolved Question:

I just bought a 1986 XJ6 4.2 LITER straight 6 cylinder. It was running when put away for the winter in November. When taken out it turns over but no spark from plugs. Battery good, power to fuel pump good ,power at condensor. Don't know Jags. What is it ?

Check for power on the White wire at the ignition coil positive side.Check for a trigger signal on the White/Black wire on the negative side of the coil. This signal comes from the amplifier. If power and signal are present, replace the coil. If no signal proceed to step 4.
Check for power on the White wire at the ignition amplifier. Disconnect the distributor pick up leads from the amplifier and measure the resistance of the pick up coil, should be 2.2K-4.8K ohms.

snapontech :
Check the rotor for pinholes by holding coil wire just above distributor rotor while someone cranks engine, no spark should be present. If spark is present the rotor is faulty and allowing spark to travel through to the distributor shaft. This is a common problem.
