Customer Question

Richard, regardless of the cause, why does the default light come on only "intermittently" and not permanently? I mean if the ring is loose, is it not loose all the time and therefore in default and shouldn't the warning light stay on until it is fixed. And is that not also true for whatever the problem is. I am at wits end trying to understand the inconsistency of the default light apprearance, sometimes with weeks between occurences

It is most likely an intermittent electrical failure with the control module since it is intermittent. The warning will only come on when it detects the failure. The warning will turn off once you turn off the vehicle and may not come back on right away.

Richard..here is the madding thing about this. I have used my car twice this morning. Initally, the failure light was on, as it has been for 2 days. The second time, an hour ago, the fault light is no longer showing. I have shut the car off and restarted it 3 times since and still, the fault light is off. I live in warm desert climate and ABS is really useless. I'm about ready to have a mechanic just disconnect the light..out of shear frustration. Functionally, the car runs just great. I'm not really interested in spending a load of money and end up with the same problem. Any more ideas before I quit pestering you? I'm Jim and thanks

Honestly there is nothing easy about getting rid of the light. Based on everything we discussed I suspect a problem with that module. You can have your module rebuilt but even if you go that route it will be costly. See if there is a European repair shop in your area that can read the faults in the ABS module.
