snapontech :

Welcome to Justanswer, My name is XXXXX X am here to help.

snapontech :

Hello

snapontech :

I suspect you have a faulty battery

snapontech :

Have you had it checked

Customer :

yes...mechanic thought that too.. claims its OK

snapontech :

Really do you know what the test results were?

snapontech :

What did it get for cold cranking amps

Customer :

no....

snapontech :

I am not sure what he performed to verify the battery.. When it does this will it start with a jump?

Customer :

actually I belive he told me it tested slightly higher than expected...

Customer :

No... dash board lights up... steering column moves up & down .. everything work fine except nothing happens when you turn the key...

snapontech :

This can be a faulty key transponder

snapontech :

To verify this you will need to run some tests when its happening.

snapontech :
Without a scan tool that can communicate with the Body Processor Module, there are limited checks you can do. Check the key reader around the ignition switch for a 12 volt signal from the Key Transponder Module when the key is turned to position 1. If that is missing, check the power to the KTM on the Brown/Red wire at pin 4 and ground on the Black/Pink wire at pin 12. There should also be two ignition switched grounds on a White/Orange wire at pin 14 and a White/Brown wire at pin 13.
Customer :

Thats what i'm beginning to think.... since I had no problem last year but the problem developed over the winter while in storage....

snapontech :

I would verify the problem is the same if you bypass the starter relay before going towards this

snapontech :

When the problem is occurring you will want to bypass the starter relay by jumping it right at the starter to see if it will crank if it does replace the starter relay if not I would be suspected the transponder is at fault

Customer :

what do you think about the idea that the keys " forgot " over the winter & may need to be recoded... ???

snapontech :

This is abnormal but you could try and have them recoded but you will pay the same few after replacing the transponder

snapontech :

You will need a factory scanner to do the coding

Customer :

Thank you.... you have been very helpful.....

snapontech :

Your very welcome. Have a great weekend!

Customer :

You too

snapontech :

Will do.
