Hello and welcome to justanswer.com
Overall the 2005 XJ is a very solid vehicle but I do see issues with the transmission control module programming, air suspension concerns with the compressor and shocks, and problems with the electronic throttle. All these are costly but do not effect every vehicle on the road. I recommend you have the vehicle inspected by your local mechanic or dealer. This may cost you a small fee but it will be well worth it if this prevents you from purchasing a problem vehicle. As far as maintenance there really is nothing more than usual fluid/filter changes, tires, brakes, belts and hoses like all other vehicles but the parts and labor is more as you know from being a Jag owner. Also if you give me the last six digits of the VIN I can run a vehicle inquiry.
