Thanks for that, however this does not show the pickup or the bedplate of the engine?

Hi again..

Thank you for your reply...you are right, that doesn't unfortunately show the actual pick up - its not normally a problem though that..
The plastic molded oil pick-up is attached to the underside of the structural sump. It is immersed in the oil reservoir to provides a supply to the oil pump during all normal vehicle attitudes.
The inlet and outlet ports align with oil passages in the bed plate, shown in the pic...with a rubber coated metal gasket(again shown...between the pump and the bed plate ) to seal the pump to bed plate interface.

Its a little hard to say without seeing it but it sounds like maybe the engine you are fitting may be of a different year...I think maybe the best thing for you to do is to qualify that would be to give the relevant engine numbers etc to a Jaguar dealer parts dept and have them double check that for you - just in case.. but do let me know if I can help anymore at all though..

Best Rgds - MIKE.

hi, the new replacment engine has the exact same pickup tube as the old one with 3 fixing holes to bolt to the bed plate, when I noticed it was only held on with one bolt I figured someone was lazy and not bothered with the other two, when I removed the tube the o ring was missing and I saw the bedplate was identical in every way however only had 1 threaded hole tapped in it to fix the tube where my old engine had three (the flange for the tube is a triangle shape).. I'm worried that the tube will not tighten properly with just the one bolt fixing it and wether there was a change in manufacture and it is normal or I have a bedplate that has not been drilled at the factory? I was hoping that someone on here may have dropped a few sumps on XK / XJ8's +R's and noticed that some only have 1 hole whilst some have 3? The replacement engine came out of a 1998 XJ8.

Hi again..

Thank you for your reply and further info..

I understand what you are saying yes and can picture what you have.. While its a while since I have had one to bits , I work on these for many years.

What I don't fully understand is why you have what you have - as you say..its either a design change ..or, as you say, someone has not done something right before. I tend to think its the former - but thats why I mentioned what I did re having a dealer parts dept check on this for you - they can bring up on screen you see and check.. I will look to see if I have any more pics on this but as yet, thats all I have as above.. so I was hoping to save you time by suggesting as I did above..

If it is that its only a one bolt fixing , thats fine..it will be fine.. but you do need to make sure as above.. and its a worry that the seal ( O ring ) was missing... in that - "laziness" / shoddy work could have gone on before hand.

Again, I will check for you and get back to you if I can come up with anything more - but it may be quicker for you to check it out as above...but I certainly dont recall such issues as you have there before...

Best Rgds - MIKE.
