x type: 07 plate..steering..idling..rattling..be the water pump

Resolved Question:

I have a x type 2 ltr diesel 07 plate it's spluttering in 4th and fifth gear also steering is making funny noise and when idling their is a quite a rattling that comes and goes could this be the water pump

Hi there hope i can be of assistance,

 

Ok your describing 2 common faults with this engine.

 

The spluttering is likely to be down to the injectors. These may just need re-coding (reset), or if they have adapted out of adjustment, they may need replacing. A simple job, but the injector will need recoding to the car.

 

As for the noise, this is most likely the crankshaft pulley. This has an internal damper and overtime these wear out causing virbations and odd noises through the engine.
