2000 Jaguar S Type: I need to change the ignition switch

Resolved Question:

I have a 2000 Jaguar S Type. I need to change the ignition switch. How do I get the old one out? And can I keep the part that the key fits.

Does the key turn in the ignition lock cylinder?

Yes. The key turns okay.

Ok first remove the lower dash cover on the driver side then you will see two bolts securing the ignition housing to the back of the dash. Remove the entire housing with the switch, lock cylinder and interlock cable. Then you can disconnect the key security transceiver around the cylinder then the ignition switch. You can then remove the switch from the back and install the new one. You may need to turn the lock cylinder when the new switch is installed.
