are oil gasket leaks dangerous? I just had a oil change and was told that the oil pan gasket needed to be changed for a small leak. 800.00 is out of the question right now.

If it's just a small leak then just clean the oil off the exhaust and keep an eye on the level. The problem is the oil will drip directly on that front exhaust pipe and smoke. I do not think you need to worry about a fire at this point but if the leak worsens then you will really have no choice but to repair it.
