Customer Question

Hello, I just got a Jaguar XK8 mod 1997 from US. The Check Eng light is on. DTC codes P0405 and P1230. The fuel pump relay is changed. The car feels somtimes a bit uneven at speed 80 km/h. How can I go on and work with the car, put out the light in a way that it does not return?

Optional Information:
1997 Jaguar XK8 4.0

Already Tried:
I have used a OBD 2, DTC P0405 and P1230
The Fuel pump and the fuel pump relay have been changed. I have reset the Check engine but the codes came back

Hello and welcome to justanswer.com

DTC P0405 is for the EGR valve drive. You will need to inspect the EGR valve connector and harness for rubbing on the exhaust or brackets. The EGR valve is located on the back of the engine under the throttle. For the code P1230 if you replaced the relay you need to remove the fuse box and check for corrosion on the connectors and terminals.

Thak you for your answer. I changed the EGR valve with another used one, removed the fuse box, took out all contacts and could not see corrosion on the connectors. I tried to touch "the main" (big?) connector in the engine room in case of bad connection. No immediate result. But next day the check engine light was not showing for tree days. Smile Then I did not use the car for some days and the check engine light was on again. I tried to use the "Engine check pro" and there as no connection with the car.???

Ok

The fuse for the data link connector may be blown. You need to check fuse #6, #8 and #16 in the driver side dash fuse box. Depending on your VIN/chassis number the fuses are different.

Thanks again. I changed all fuses and got connected to the car. I am afraid the fault codes P0405 and P1230 are still there.
