Hi My wife (Filipino) and I got married in Ireland march of 2008.I am an EU citizen (German) living in Ireland. After how many years is she eligible for naturalization?Kind RegardsManfred Meyer
1. In order to obtain Irish citizenship, your Filipino wife must be lawfully resident in Ireland for one year plus four of the previous eight years. Essentially five years in all. As she has at least four years lawful residence in Ireland behind her she will be able to apply for irish citizenship within the next year. Go the www.inis.gov.ie the website of the Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service where she will be able to download the relevant forms to fill in. Details are also provided about applying for naturalisation. Be aware that INIS practice is to grant a permanent right to remain after five years lawful residency. so even if her citizenship application has not been dealt with, she can continue to live and work in Ireland.
