if you have three partners for a show that is being pitched one of which is a silent partnerthe majority parnter is the original creator and the second partner is an active partner notwith the actual filming etc when you copywright is it okay for only the creator to be on thepapers? if there were disputes in the future would it make a difference re: the ownership?
Optional Information: State/Country relating to question: California Already Tried: I am on legal zoom to get the copywright but have not finished based on my question to you
Hi. I can help you answer this question. Do you currently have a legal entity formed with these partners (LLC or otherwise) or any kind of partnership agreement?
In the absence of any agreement, the copyright in the work vests in the author. I am assuming that you are trying to copyright a script or treatment, in which case the writer would own the copyright by default unless there is a written agreement that states that the copyright is held jointly. If there were multiple writers and they intended the writing to be co-written, then the copyright is shared equally by them.
