Hi my name is XXXXX XXXXX with regard to your question are you working on a D4 engine? If so are you referring to the injector lines? I'm unclear on what you mean about trim lines. Please advise, Thanks.
Dan,
Just to explain further I am referring to Volvo Penta D4 turbocharged diesel boat engines. I have twin engines fitted to a 32'0" Cranchi Pelican sports cruiser. The hydraulic lines I'm referring to operate power tilt/trim and steering. The lines pass through the transom mount plate which is recessed - there is insufficient room to get fingers or standard tools in to access the nuts that secure the lines. There are two lines per engine, 4 in total and they are sold as 2 line assemblies.
Hello, Okay thanks for the reply back. I work on the construction side for Volvo and I apologize I don't see the penta line at all. I will opt out to see if another expert might be able to assist. I will also recommend they put this in the boat category, since that is where you might find a boat mechanic. Thanks for the time, and best of luck. Dan
Thanks Dan - hopeful of receiving a reply from one of your colleagues in marine diesel engines
Hi, your welcome, I sent it to another expert to see if he could help. Best regards, Dan.

Hi I will help with your problem Please do not rate until all your questions are answered that way you wont have to pay twice Use reply to expert link.ThanksWell you have your work cut out that's for sure.Is there any way you can take some pictures, I do know what you are talking about, but been a long time,I have had to make my own tools in this situation to be able to access bolts,I'm not a where of tools sold for this but if you send me pictures I may be able to steer you in the correct direction. To send pictures just put on your computer and copy and paste inside the reply box and then I can view them.I can tell you you need to get your new hoses first because when you go to replace buy some fittings so you can tie to each other and when you pull the old ones out the new ones will go in place at the same time.spanky
Please find below a couple of photos for your reference. The starboard side is fitted with what appears to be 2 hex screws that I imagine will allow the assembly to drop down to enable access to the bolts, but I'm reluctant to attempt this as I don't know whats behind the plate (access internally from the engine bay is not possible). The assembly on the port side doesn't have the 2 hex screws as per the starboard side so I really don't know what to do here or what the pipes fit to. I have made a range of cranked spanners and with a bit of care I'm confident I can remove the existing pipe assemblies - I am less confident on being able to connect the new ones however as I cant even get my fingers in to start the threads. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated
Spanky not sure if you received the photos - let me know if you didn't
I'm sorry I did not receive pictures. When you send pictures just put on your computer and copy and paste pictures inside the reply box and I will get them.I know what you mean about not getting your fingers in, I use some long needle nose pliers to hold in position and use a flat blade screwdriver with a bent tip to get them started.Make sure they spin freely you may have to put some Teflon lube spray on them so they spin free, do this before you start to put in place.I have church this morning I will check back after about noon cct. This is the first response from you I have seen they had some tech issue and lost some data I would have contacted you after first reply if I had known you did,I'm sorry about that it's happened on 4 of my questions now but try resending them if they were copy and pasted in reply box let me know so I can send a tech question to find out were they went.Customer replies are so important and I never let one just sit like happened to you I will contact them about that issue just let me know about pictures.I'm also sorry I never got your name?I will be looking for pictures spanky
Spanky photos below - cut and paste doesn't work on photo's it seems so I have simply dragged them in
Let me get a hold of customer service I still don't see them They said something about the issue in the news letter but said they had figured it out.I apologize I will get back to you asap spanky
Here is what the support team sent me about pictures.spankyHI Spanky Thanks for your message. I don't see any emails from that customer's registered email address. We also suggest this to customers who are having trouble, if you want to copy and paste it to him: I also wanted to mention a site called imgur.com that's really great for sharing picures. It's free, and all you need to do is go to the site and: 1. click the "Computer" button 2. double click the image on your computer 3. click "start upload" Then just copy/paste the new link in the browser window and you can immediately supply your Expert with your pictures by posting the link to your question page. Just checking in to see if you had a chance to load pictures again sorry your having trouble it used to be just copy and paste spanky
Spanky...thanks for following up and your reply!
You are right in that it should very simply be a cut and paste exercise. Frankly I don't have the time/desire to mess around with this any further and these comments bare no reflection at all on your good self!. I have in the past used just answer on a couple of occasions and have been very impressed with the service and the outcomes provided....it's not working for me this time round around, which is a little disappointing given justanswer claim to have Volvo experts on hand and replies in 9 minutes...I wasn't confident but remained hopeful that I would get some guidance. I appreciate your earlier advice and your eagerness to help out but out of frustration will close off my question.
Kind Regards XXXXX XXXXX for your continued interest in trying to help
