If it has been less than 6 years since you have had an H-1B, you can apply for an extension by filing an I-129. You can also recapture time that you have spent outside of the U.S. And if you have a Labor Certification pending for longer than a year, you can file for a one year extension beyond the 6th year and if you have an approved I-140
, you can file for a three year extension beyond the 6th year. Here is a link to a good article:
