The father of my grandchild (illegal immigrant) is facing deportation. He was charged minor traffic violation and because of previous traffic charges jailed he has no felony charges. INS picked him up on Tuesday. He is not married to my daughter but they have lived together since before the baby was born. They wanted to marry but because my daughter was so young I would not allow it. He is a good Christian man and a wonderful father he wants to marry my daughter and I will allow it if it will help him stay here. Is there anything we can do to help him stay with the family who loves him so much. None of us are living above the poverty line but will do everything possible. Thank u so much
You are going to need money to pay for them to get married (the legal marriage - a wedding is not required), and you are going to need the money for a filing fee for an immigrant visa petition. If you can find a legal aid clinic or a law school that has a clinic to train their law students, that may be a good source of free/more affordable legal help. How and when he entered the country will be important in determining what his options really are.. If you can get a free consultation with an attorney that may be your best start to decide how to go forward.
