You can travel while on the STEM ext with the valid visa stamp. You need to carry with you evidence of our employment such as your payroll history to show you did not fall out of status based on unemployment.

You can have an H1B petition filed for you during your 60 day grace period. However, since your OPT EAD will have expired you get the benefit of the cap gap and being able to remain in the US but you will not be able to work until Oct. 1st.
