Hyundai Repair Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Most likely the trunk switch actuator has failed or battery voltage is very low and needs to be charged. To disable alarm try putting key in the ignition and starting the car, if that fails use the key fob to lock and unlock the doors, if that fails use manual key on passenger side to lock and unlock the doors. Most likely what may have happened is something triggered the alarm previously and it drained the car battery sufficiently to cause the trunk lock to malfunction. I am sorry I meant to say an alternate set of keys , are you a Hyundai Blue link subscriber? if so they can remotely unlock the trunk electronically, short of that an alternate way into the trunk depending on which Hyundai vehicle you have would be to enter through the back seat.
Fold down the back seat and use the emergency trunk release in the trunk or just retrieve your keys.
Just above either side of the top of the seat is a flap pull out on flap and seat will fold.
looks like a cloth loop
top edge of back seat
open hood and disconnect negative side of the battery ,temporarily to silence alarm
All Sonatas do, some times it ends up between the top of the seats where the two halves come together
Is your rear seat split into two halves one larger than the other to carry cargo?
ok that one is a little more difficult, is there any type of plastic latch on top of the seat where it meets the rear deck?
ok that one in particular requires tools to be able to get it to come down, do you have any finger nail clippers in your purse?, lets shut down the annoying alarm for you first.
Some models require tools, some do not, I wish it were better news, How long has the alarm been sounding off?
ok , now open the hood
Look for something that looks like an alarm speaker, use finger nail clippers to clip one of the 2 wires going to the speaker.
This will prevent it from going off again in a few minutes
The wire can be spliced back later by your mechanic
First step will be to remove the back seat bottom, then unscrew the retainer bolts that hold the upper portion in place then reach into the trunk after the entire seat is removed, unfortunately this will require tools.
If you do not have any tools You will have to tow your vehicle to a repair facility to have a mechanic open your trunk. Please don't shoot the messenger, Please RATE my service, if you have further questions, I will answer them until you are completely satisfied with my answers.
