Customer Question

I have a hyundai i30 Cdri 1.6 2008
I have a reading on the maf sensor at about 6- 9 g/s at idle warm engine. I have alreasy changed the EGR valve and cleaned. Any suggestions for the high maf reading in idle? I have also higher fuel consumption , about 1- 2.5 liters above normalRegards
Dietrich
JA: Does the engine stall right after starting? And what about hesitation or jerking during acceleration?
Customer: No the engine runs fine and acceleration is about normal as Elgar I could test with 0- 100 km/h. It's just high fuel consumption and white smoke on cold start
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Changes EGR checked for leaked in intake manifold and checked maf sensor so far . Have ordered an new air filter and maf sensor.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: Hmm I don't think so

Hi Im David, have you tried to clean the maf sensor ? also Another way to check MAF sensor output is to see what effect it is has on injector timing. Using an oscilloscope or multimeter that reads milliseconds, connect the test probe to any injector ground terminal (one injector terminal is the supply voltage and the other is the ground circuit to the computer that controls timing). Then look at the duration of the injector pulses at idle (or while cranking the engine if the engine won't start). Injector timing varies depending on the application, but if the mass airflow sensor is not producing a signal, injector timing will be about four times longer than normal (possibly making the fuel mixture too rich to start). You can also use millisecond readings to confirm fuel enrichment when the throttle is opened during acceleration, fuel leaning during light load cruising and injector shut-down during deceleration. Under light load cruise, for example, you should see about 2.5 to 2.8 Ms duration.

hows it going?

Hmm I have now changed the MAFstill no change. Used some fuel system cleaner. And i feel a slight improvement how the engine is running and behaving while driving. Have at the moment not the possibility to test the timing of the injectors.
