My speedometer, odometer, and trip miles just stopped

Customer Question

My speedometer, odometer, and trip miles just stopped working as we were driving./
JA: What is the model/year of your Hyundai?
Customer: 2003 Santa Fe
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am just wondering if it is an easy fix, or if it is going to cost a lot to have it done.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: No, everything else seems to be working just fine

Hi there,

Can you get a scan for codes done on the vehicle please?

Sounds like a vehicle speed signal error, could be the sensor or wiring fault.

It may have P0500 VSS signal low input.

Hope this helps.

I am a 75 year old woman, who knows nothing about cars. I want to get this fixed, but was told that the power box was hard to get to and I just wanted to know if it would be an expensive fix. Did not realize it was going to cost money to just get a simple answer. So sorry I bothered you. Please do not charge my account more than the $5.00

Hello again,

It depends on the amount of diagnosis time required to find the fault, plus the cost of any part required.

Could be the Vehicle speed sensor, at about $200 fitted.

Could be the instrument cluster, could be the engine computer, since the signal goes there first or a wiring fault.

Best to take your car to Hyundai to let me them fix it for you.

I hope my advice has been of assistance to you.

Kind regards
