the ac and fan buttons on the dash do not work appear to be shorted out
JA: Have you checked the Freon level? Have you checked the hoses?
Customer: yes however the buttons do not come on at all
JA: What is the model/year of your Hyundai?
Customer: its a 2007 elantra

It sounds as if you may have a bad control head. If there is no response from any of the controls and all functions were lost at once then a bad control head or loss of power or ground to it is most likely.

Do you have an automatic or manual control system?

Have fuses been checked?
