Hyundai Santa Fe 2007 3.3L engine. I need to change the fuel

Customer Question

Hyundai Santa Fe 2007 3.3L engine. I need to change the fuel level sensors. I have removed the seats and the metal cover for the sending unit on the passenger side. I am stuck at the lock ring. I have a lock ring removal tool but am unable to get the ring
to turn. Where is the locking mechanism and how do I unlock it?

You need to turn the lock ring counter clockwise. You can also use a flathead screw driver and angle it slightly horizontal and tap the end of the screw driver handle with a hammer.Tap one side of the lock ring then the opposite side until it unlocks.

I did that last week, hammered hard, without budging the ring. I now have a lock ring removal tool, so at least I I don't need to hammer on a screwdriver any more.Is there not a mechanism that locks the ring so it will not turn?

If you push down on the sending unit while you turn it will make it easier.

How do I press down on the sending unit while the ring is in place?
