Customer Question

2008 Hyundai Elantra.
Started having issues starting up yesterday.
Today after trying to jump the car, the EPS, battery, ABS and break lights are on. how can I fix it?

Already Tried:
Checked cabin fuses and some of the fuses in the main fuse/relay box, but Other than being open I really cannot tell if anything is broken.

Hello and thank you for choosing just answer.

 

I believe your problem might be just a faulty alternator, If your battery light is ok it indicates no charge and the other lights are on as a result of the no charge condition.

 

Now what I suggest doing is to load test the alternator and load test the battery, If your alternator fails the test replace it, If your battery fails replace it as well. If your battery is good but needs to be recharged make sure you recharge it before reinstalling it back with the new alternator, If you place a battery with a low charge to be charged with an alternator you will over load the alternator and shorten it's life, The alternator is designed to maintain a good battery and not recharge a dead one.

 

If you don't have access to a load test machine then you may use a volt meter to test the alternator charge, Start the vehicle and check the voltage at the battery terminals, If you have 12v then it's not charging you want to see 13-15V. If you have 12 then it's not charging and it's most likely the culprit here.
