on a hyundai elantra 2000 car will not shift out of park with engine running was in a low speed front end accindent
Country: United StatesMake: HyundaiModel: Elantra Already Tried: sticking pen down hole on shifter plate sometimes that works putting in fuse but it blows
Do you have brake lights when stepping on the brakes?
yes everything else works
Ok this all started after the accident correct?
yes after body wok was fixed
Ok you need to go back to that body shop .There is either a broken wire to the transmission range switch or the range switch itself has shorted out.Thats why its not letting the transmission shift out of park. This is covered at the body shop who was possibly paid to repair this already .This needs to be fixed at no charge to you .This is the next step.Hoped this helped.Positive feedback and bonuses greatly appreciated.
they already treid that i tink didnt help
They replaced the transmission range switch and checked the fuses and wiring ?
checked wiring and fuses
Ok the problem is the transmission range switch was damaged due to the accident and this will cause all these issues or they shorted out the shift interlock . These are where they need to focus next. You can print this out and bring it with you to tell them what to check next. Hoped this helped. Positive feedback and bonuses greatly appreciated .

Relist: Inaccurate answer.
What's inaccurate about this answer. This is what needs to be checked and will cause this issue . As long as there are brake lights these are the only 2 systems that can affect this.
tour answer was way off problem was a loose wire in the lights
Again it was a loose wire from the accident like I stated and should have been fixed for free.
