I turn my thermostat up and furnace may take 1 to 3 hours

I turn my thermostat up and furnace may take 1 to 3 hours before it starts but when it starts it seems to work perfectly just started acting like this about4 weeks ago. what is the problem ? p.s. this furnace is 26 years old

Russ here. Sounds like it is locking out after it starts. It will usually try to start in about 2 to 3 hours. This old of furnace it is usually limit switch. Check your filters to see if they are clean. Get back with me after to check filters. Russ
