Customer Question

Someone there? Thought I'd give this a shot- problem with a day/night furnace
JA: Did you check the furnace's filters?
Customer: Yup changed last weekend
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: I'll try. I have replaced igniter in the past...
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: So it failed two days ago- blower in but no ignition. Runs for a minite Today it came back on for a few hours---stopped working and I see it has a red blinking code- 12

12 is usually a code we get when unit was calling for heat when power was turned on to furnace.Blower should run 90 seconds and stop the error code go away.So lets wait the 90 seconds ,see if we get a different code or if furnace will work

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Yeah I've tried this for a while...
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Too expensive :)
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Does the 12 error go away after 90 seconds?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Ignore the phone call offer It is auto generated,We can continue here

Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

OK now call for heat and tell me if heat comes on or we get a different code.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Thx. So it's quiet. No error.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Nothing happens with thermostat. If I power on/off the main switch, it cycles for 90 sec
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Do this. JUmp the R and W terminals on furnace control board where thermostat wires connect and tell me if it comes onhttp://i.imgur.com/JprQdYv.png

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I see r and w...jump?
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Yes

Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Jump the terminals on the board

Customer: replied 6 months ago.

Was power already on and the 90 second cycle complete when you jumped r and w, then 12 came back?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I didn't finish all 90 secs...ran 15 secs and nothing lit....can do again and wait the whole 90 sec?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I have to hold the spring button given the cover panel is off
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Yes, Allow the 90 seconds cycle and fan to stop. The jumper R and W. Furnace should come on or we should get a different code.Tape switch if you need to

Customer: replied 6 months ago.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
no 32
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
no ignition
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

33 means we have an open limit. Do you know what limits look like?Count again (NO 32 listed in manuall)

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I have 32 code on my cover
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

GIve me model on furnace and tell me what your panel says for 32.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Low heat pressure switch or relay didn't open
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

OK next tell me if the small vent motor ever came on?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Never heard another motor or sound
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Model 331 jav 036060
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

OK that is your problem.THe vent motor where vent connects has to start to close the pressure switch. Check and see if we are getting 120v to vent motor when you call for heat

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I don't have a meter :(
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I think I see the motor- weird that it worked for 12 hrs today and then failed...
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It's sporadic
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Either the motor is failing or board is failing not sending power to that little motor. You will need a meter though to verify which

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Does it have a fuse?
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

No fuse. Sporadic points more towards the board as they develop stress cracks. I would want to check with a meter first though before just telling you which

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I can get one from family tomorrow- I have a 7 day trial....maybe I. And pick up on this tomorrow. I'd like to fix myself if possible
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Thanks ok- so I think the vent motor is in bottom and has a fly wheel I can turn-
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
See wire that goes into board
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.
Expert:  airheatman replied 6 months ago.

Make sure the connections are not loose too

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
