Changed batteries 3 times; nothing on thermostat screen.

Customer Question

Changed batteries 3 times; nothing on thermostat screen. Furnace comes on for 10 seconds and dies out.
JA: Just to clarify, do you think this is a larger HVAC problem, or something specific to the thermostat?
Customer: Good question. Happened last winter, landlord replaced thermostat. Worked for a couple of months. Just thought he put in used batteries....didn't think it was anything but batteries!
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Only if it requires reprogramming thermostat.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: no.

Give me model on thermosat and furnace

Customer: replied 26 days ago.
I'm not at home....it's a Honeywell, cheap model, I think LTH122. Can't remember.
Customer: replied 26 days ago.
Is that $24 in addition to the $23 I already paid?
Expert:  airheatman replied 26 days ago.

OK first step is to determine if thermostat is issue or issue is in furnace. To do so, remove thermostat wires at thermostat and twist R and W wires together. If heat comes on and works we know thermostat is the problem.Ignore phone call offer if you are not interested. No problem
