I just installed a new goodman gmec96 furnace. hooked up

thermostat wiring same as old furnace ,but doesn't run .Gives trbl code "YLO or Y call present w/o G"
JA: Just to clarify, do you think this is a larger HVAC problem, or something specific to the thermostat?
Customer: trblshooting manual says thermostat,but only 2 wire unit & tested w/VOM 7 it operate as should RE: on or off .I am stumped
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: yes
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?

do want furnace or thermostat model?new furnace is Goodman GMEC961205dn old unit was Dayton .thermostat is same 2 wire unit I have verified is working ok..troblshooting chart for new unit says"faulty thermostat or thermostat wiring or improperly connected thermostat wires" wires are connected to Y & G on thermostat & Y & G on furnace .

OK so let me understand, Are you saying the old furnace just had two wires, R and W and you are trying to use the new furnace with only two wires ?

it has been connected that way for 28 years[to the Dayton unit] whay would be correct connections?
