Have a 10 year old Reliance 606 gas hot water heater,

Customer Question

Have a 10 year old Reliance 606 gas hot water heater, replaced the thermocouple/ignition assembly and put in a new gas valve. Standing pilot model. The thermocouple is in direct flame glowing red and the unit just shuts down. The exhauat pipe us on a manifold with other units and they are working well.

Hello, locate the high temperature safety cut out device (black plastic 1/2" thick, round with two wire connections... jumper the wire connections for a brief test, if the water heater then stays on longer than it had earlier, replace that device.
