Customer Question

I have a Payne furnace that is only blowing cold air how can you help
JA: Did you double-check the thermostat's settings? And what about the filters?
Customer: When I turn off the thermostat the furnace continues to run blowing only cold air
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Sure if it's something simple
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: When you switch off the switch on the side of the furnace and switch it back on the furnace continues to blow cold air.
Also the LED light does not indicate that there is this problem

when you need heat, doe the heat function work but the main blower just never shuts down?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
The igniter never attempt to light the blower is just continuously blowing cold air only.
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Also I check the fuse and it is not blows
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Are you still there
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

Yes...but the light remains solid? lit or off?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
the light remain solid red
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

If the light remains solid

The blower runs continuous

Heat does not work = bad circuit board.

Do you have 24v at R and C on board?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Not sure no longer near the furnace.
But I do think I remember seeing something about along those lines
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

The issue can also be caused by a glitch that took out thermostat, yet seized blower relay.

I would jump R and W at board for a direct call for heat. The same result will apply though if it heats and blower will not stop...=new board

Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

And if it heats with r jumped to w - new thermostat too

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I will be back near the furnace tomorrow is it alright if we resume the conversation at that time. I was on my way to the store to get a new thermostat as I grab the one for heat only and I need one for heat and AC.
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
When you say jump the r&w at the circuit board are you suggesting that I just take a wire and touch those two
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

no problem, just respond when you have further info.

Keep this on your end until ready.

Jump R to W means connect the 2 either twist togther or connect with small jumper

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
When twisting the wires the fan stops running. The status light still remains on as if the furnace is functioning properly
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

Thank you,

if main blower stopped and the exhaust did not start...and the light remains solid is indicative of a bad circuit board

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Nope
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

Then some info is not correct.

Did the exhaust fan start when r to w connected?

You say blower stopped when r to w connected..this means there is not an open safety as R would have no power.

Light is solid...this means no fault,,which means heat or cool should work..and if they do not a code would flash

What is current status?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Blinking then it stopped.
The blower started to blow. The igniter with the furnace. Then shut off. So I think I'm going to call up an HVAC person. The light just remain. The blower does not continuously blow anymore
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

ok so now we have seen blinking....what is the blink pattern?

And we did a glow from ignitor but not ignition?

Or do you prefer to close this and call for service?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
What time can you come and check it
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 2 months ago.

I cannot schedule from this venue.

You would need to contact a local Bryant, Carrier or Payne dealer.

Any of these brands will have the necessary parts and training to take care of you
