My a/c unit started making a loud noise last night then shut

My a/c unit started making a loud noise last night then shut off. Still have blower on A/c comes on every few hours for about 5 minutes and shuts off
JA: Did you double-check the thermostat? And what about the unit's filters?
Customer: Yes and the filter is about a month old
