Hello, remove the batteries and fit them in *backwards... wait 5 minutes and reinstall them correctly, let me know what happens.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Do I turn the system on or leave it off while the batteries re reversed?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I left the system off while the batteries were reversed. With reinstatement it's still flashing intermittently.

Thanks, ***** ***** case I need the brand and model number of the furnace or air handler.

Or you can tell me which color wires connect to the magic stat and onto which terminal numbers or letters and we do some tests.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well, amazingly the system corrected itself after about an hour. So I should be OK now.

Then after a few minutes it just died so I'm going to get a new one.

If you get an identical thermostat and wire it identically that will be safe enough. if you get one of the other 30 thermostats on the market you can run into compatibility and wiring issues.
