Customer Question

Hello,
JA: Hello. What seems to be the problem?
Customer: I have a Goodman AC unit that's not turning on. I hear no compressor noise and the fan doesn't turn on but the motor is hot to the touch and hums. The outdoor switch is GFCI and tripped. I've checked everything indoors and all appears in good working order.
JA: Did you double-check the thermostat? And what about the unit's filters?
Customer: Yes and changed
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the HVAC Technician about your situation and then connect you two.

If motor on outdoor unit is hot, either the fan motor or the capacitor is bad, If compressor tried to run with no fan it is probably cut off on internal overload.

Do you have a multi meter and a capacitance tester?

Compressor will not make any noise it windings have opened until it cools back down.
