Okay, being that I am not there I would error on the side of caution. You are still under warranty, so I suggest you use it. First does the smell and noise come from the top? Where the heat pump itself is?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I can't pin point the smell it's in the garage. When I disable the unit, the smell is gone. The noise seems to come from the bottom after a couple of days of being turned on.

That's really strange. The tank portion is just like a standard electric water heater. It shouldn't hum. There's no source for it to hum unless you have a recirculation pump down there. Can you upload some pictures of the install. first from a distance so i can see it all

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Ok - the humming is actually from the top, where there's something that appeared to be the fan. I just came out to the garage and stayed here while it was humming. It shut itself off thankfully. WT?
Expert:  WCohn replied 5 months ago.

Ok, that makes more sense. Are you able to take pictures?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Took them. Tech stupid! How do I upload these to you?
