I have a carrier unit model 38BRC048370. The condenser fan

Customer Question

Hello I have a carrier unit model 38BRC048370. The condenser fan stopped working today. The fan spins freely. Condenser is running and everything in the house is normal. I suspect the fan start capacitor. What do you think? The unit is 11 years old.

This will either be a bad capacitor or bad motor. Do you have a meter to check capacitance on capacitor and voltage to motor?

I assume that the capacitor is relatively cheap, so replace that first.

Excellent. Lets start with capacitor. Turn off power , discharge cap with a screwdriver and lets see what cap is reading on capacitance meter
