Good Morning, I am Kevin, one of the Tech's here on JA.

You cannot keep your pilot lit or main flame?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
main flame
Expert:  Kcrand36 replied 1 year ago.

Pilot flame is lit, but no main flame?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
pilot burns , main flame will come on ,but will not stay on but for 1-3 minutes , then everything goes out. then it all works again .I lite the pilot and let burn for 24 hours .
Expert:  Kcrand36 replied 1 year ago.

so the heat works for 24 hours or just the pilot?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
just the pilot
Expert:  Kcrand36 replied 1 year ago.

ok, so the pilot stays on, but the burner (main) will not come on?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
you are getting there .everything comes on works for a minute or two then everything goes off . then I can relite everything and it does the same thing.I ran a test on the pilot light to see if it would burn and not go out. it work fine. I check to see if there was enough gas in tank , there is. i hope this helps you understand the problem.

You need to verify the gas pressure, not just the presence of gas, lp 11-14" WC. Verify adjusted pressure on nameplate.

It sounds like you are loosing the pressure when the main gas comes on "demand is higher"!

Expert:  Kcrand36 replied 1 year ago.

After you have verified that pressure, we can take it from there.

Just a note, is it bitter cold where the tank is located?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no
Expert:  Kcrand36 replied 1 year ago.

ok, just a thought...... but I have seen a lot of freeze ups at the regulator this time of year in the coldest of days. Most propane company's mix a little methane in the propane to keep them from freezing during this weather.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the problem is in the heater . i hooked another heater to this gas line and it did just fine.
Expert:  Kcrand36 replied 1 year ago.

what is the model # ***** the problem heater?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
model # ***** , ritetemp brand ,floor model , unvented

do you know if you have a "photo eye or thermocouple" on or near the pilot assembly?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
thermocouple
Expert:  Kcrand36 replied 1 year ago.

you could try changing the thermocouple, they are available from Home Depot for appr 10-20 dollars. Usually when a thermocouple is bad though, it will not allow the pilot to stay lit. This is precisely why I said I believed you had a control problem, such as with the gas valve. or if there is a regulator before the gas valve, I would check that first. Either way, you will need a manometer to test gas pressure.
