The thermoucple may be one of two types. Does it have a flexible silver binding around two wires or is it a copper lead?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hey Doug its a flexible silver binding.
Expert:  Douglas replied 1 year ago.

OK, it should have two simple wire connections at the gas valve, At the pilot burner it should be held in place with a brass compression type fitting. May be like 3/8" bradss hex... do you see that?

Expert:  Douglas replied 1 year ago.

Let me see if I can grab a picture

See if this helps

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
thats the problem. The compression nut won't turn. the smaller nut that holds therm in place was only finger tight but the large one holding in place with the burner assembly won't budge.
Expert:  Douglas replied 1 year ago.

I believe that is fixed to the pilot, the small one should turn, but I suspect you are saying it is not loostening?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The brass nut did unthread with no issue. I can't seem to pull the therm from it's position in the burner assembly.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it's been disconnected now I just need to remove it but can't.
Expert:  Douglas replied 1 year ago.

Somnetimes they swell or corrode enough to make it tight... Once the nut is out, is there any chance it will go through the other way? OR can you use pliers to gently turn without crushing the element head?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'll try. just one moment please.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The therm is loose. it'll slide down about 1/8" but then can't go any further. Also see red silicone where all the leads come into the burner assembly which is hampering movement also.
Expert:  Douglas replied 1 year ago.

your throwing the old one out so it wont matter, we just dont want to mess up the burner.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I think I can cut the wire and remove it that way. is that ok?
Expert:  Douglas replied 1 year ago.

Yes since you are disposing of the old one

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok Doug. I'll try that. Thanks for your help.
