Customer Question

I have a goodman gms80904bn furnace that is dead. Shows no signs of life. I have power to the furnace but no light on the circuit board. Fuse is ok, but I'm not sure it's the right size fuse.

I will be happy to assist you today

Do you have a multimeter for troubleshooting?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I dont
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Lets see what we can do without a meter. Remove the blower panel and locate the control board.Look on board for a 3 or 5 amp auto type fuse.remove it and see if it is burned.

its a 5 amp fuze. Not blown but I don't know that it's the correct size for the model furnace. There was a 5, 10, and 30 amp fuze on top of the furnace from someone else working on it before me
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

5 is fine, but nothing bigger.Have you checked breaker?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have power to the wall switch on the side of the furnace.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

If you have no light on board we have a power problem and may have to get a meter to troubleshoot. You can get an inexpensive one at Walmart for about 15 bucks if you would like to troubleshoot and I would be happy to guide you.

Silly question, but without a meter how do you know you have power at wall switch?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not such a silly question. A have a basic ac/DC voltage tester.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

LOL. I see. does ithave leads where we could see if the door switch is letting power through to board?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It does. What should I do
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Thee should be a black power wire going into the push button door switch and with switch held in power out to LINE on board

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I see it
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Let me know if we are getting power to board? By the way, which tester do you have?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where should I touch the red and black leads?
It's a south wire 40140s
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

White and black where power comes to furnace ,Then black on other side of door switch and same white

Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Then out of board to transformer. I have to step away a few minutes but will be back shortly

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Power past door switch.
No power to transformer from the board.
Can we pick this up tomorrow. I have to go?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Absolutely.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to this. Power to switch good. Power past cover switch.
No power to transformer from board.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

No 120 out of board going to transformer?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, it's dead
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

But you do have 120 at board on L-H and Neutral?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
How can I test for that? There is a light on the board. Does not appear on
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

That is what I last sent. You should have a terminal on board marked L-H and then other side the neutrals where all whites connect.

Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Scroll back up and click on link I sent.Let me know if it will still open.

Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Try this link

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Power at line h and the neutral on the board
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

If we have 120 in, but not sending 120 out to transformer board is bad and will have to be replaced

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ca you recommend a good source for the board?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

This is the board I show.I would verify before ordering though.
