My Goodman GMS80904BN furnace is not working.

Customer Question

My Goodman GMS80904BN furnace is not working.

Can you give me the complete model number on the furnace? It will be on a label on inside furnace panel just above burners. The model number will help me give accurate assistance for your specific unit.

Below is a link showing where to find label with model number:

If furnace is not coming on, there should be an error light flashing on the control board in blower compartment to indicate what has failed. If you can locate this and tell me the pattern of the flash, that will point us in the right direction for troubleshooting.

Also let me know if you have a multi meter for troubleshooting.WE will go from here.

The light is just red

I have 2 units, the larger one the pilot light isn't even igniting and the smaller unit the light ignites but just cuts off after a few seconds.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Lets work on one unit at a time.

WE will start with the one you gave me model number on. Turn thermostat to call for heat and tell me if the small vent motor come son

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it does
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK next tell me if you have a glow bar or a spark igniter (Goodman used both) and if it glows or sparks?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't see anything lit, where would i see it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I found it, and it is not glowing or sparking
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK does it look like this?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
but it isn't lighting or glowing
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Look closely and see if it looks broken

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, it looks fine.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Do you have a volt meter

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No i don't
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Our first step will be to get a meter and see if the board is sending 120v to that igniter.WE can unplug the connector and put one lead into each side of the connector. We have to get 120 v before igniter will glow. You can et an inexpensive meter at Walmart for about 20 bucks if this is something you want to troubleshoot with my guidance.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok, can we work on the other unit now?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Sure, Give me complete model on it please if different

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
model is

Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Ok same unit just smaller, so we will go through exact same questions.I understand it lights but goes right back out, correct?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
correct and you can hear the fan running as well
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it continues to repeat the same process of lighting then turning off then lighting again...
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK lets start on that one by cleaning the flame sensor. You can do that with a dollar bill or fine sandcloth. You will have to remove a screw to get it out to clean it. See below

Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Looks this

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok i cleaned it with a dollar bill
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK lets turn power off, then back on and try heat again

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It's still doing the same thing
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK do we get a flash code on this one?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the light is just steady red
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
nvm it is blinking
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK we really should be getting error codes when these furnace fail.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
its blinking, i think its just 1 time, it is a steady slow blink/flash
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

That is a lockout does it go to one blink on first attempt?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it was just red until after the 3rd time it tried to come on, then it blinked
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Make sure the wire connection from the flame sensor is clean and connecting good on flame sensor and where it plugs into board

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
everything looks clean
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Is there anything else to try?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok, i have to leave for work now, this was not very much help. I would like to end this conversation.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I would like a refund please.
