My thermostat os set for 70. Temp has been steadily dropping. Now at 63. Replaced the thermostat batteries and it seemed to come back on (the pilot glowed?) But then turned back off. Amana 80sse

This doesn't sound like a problem with your thermostat. It sounds like a problem with your furnace.
