Customer Question

I received assistance a little bit ago on this topic, I am having an issue with getting my furnace to turn over. At this point the only way to get the furnace to turn on is to jump the W and R wire at the furnace. I have changed the wires (spare wires,
Brown and Black) and still does not work. Any clues....

it may be the thermostat not the wires try jumping the R and W terminals at the thermostat and see if it will turn the furnace on. You will need someone near the furnace to see if it actually starts because you would need to keep the terminals jumped out to get it to start. it has to be the wire or the thermostat. You may have to change both wires the red and the white.

I did try this and it did not work, I have also tried two different thermostats

odd did you try changing the red wire to? you had the blower door back on when you tried it? you had the power off to the furnace when changing thermostats?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I had the power off, I did change both wires.. Not sure what to do next....

well w know the air conditioning works so lets try disconnecting the Y wire at the thermostat and using that on the W terminal. then go to the furnace and use the yellow wire on the W terminal of the furnace and try it.

Still nothing.....

turn the heat up go to the furnace and take the lower blower door off and then press the door switch in.

The right comes on (solid) and nothing else.

but if you jump it out at the furnace it fires right up?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
correct, I hear the click and the furnace starts right up...
Expert:  Heath.M replied 1 year ago.

see if you can get some wire and wire up a thermostat down at the furnace to the R and W terminals and see if the furnace will run then. You must have a really bad wire issue.

hold on a second. how long did you wait for the furnace to come on?

Expert:  Heath.M replied 1 year ago.

what is the model of the thermostat some of them have a 3-5 minute delay,

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Just get a quick test at the furnace and you are right the wiring is bad. It comes right on from the thermostat
Expert:  Heath.M replied 1 year ago.

okay you will need to run a whole new wire to the thermostat
