We recently had out ac unit replaced but the hvac contracter

Customer Question

We recently had out ac unit replaced but the hvac contracter only replaced the outdoor unit and not the indoor evaporator coil. I tried to turn the heat on today and it was only blowing cold air. I just went to check the furnace and there is water all over the floor. It seems to be leaking from a plastic tube connecting the furnace to the evaporator coil. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Is he outdoor unit running?

Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

And when you say cold, do you mean cold like ac or just not warm?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the outdoor unit is running and it is cold air.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
do you think it is rare that he replaced only the outdoor unit and not the inside evaporator coil?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK. next tell me model on outdoor unit and what you have thermostat set to.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
every other quote we received told us that we should do that but he was the only one who said it wasn't necessary.

It is best to replace coil and outdoor unit as a matched pair. What is model on outdoor unit?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It is some generic brand, does ICP mean anything?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Should be a model on label on unit

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I have to run out will you be online in a few hours?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK this is what I expected. The outdoor unit is NOT a heat pump and therefore should not be running on call for HEAT . Turn thermostat to OFF and see if outdoor goes off.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok it will take me a moment, somehow when I opened furnace I lost power to the thermostat.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Take your time. If outdoor stays running with thermostat off, we ay have a stuck contactor. If not but outdoor comes on when you call for heat, we may have an issue with thermostat setup.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it turns out outdoor unit turned off when I turned off the heat.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it must be the thermostat?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

OK next I need the model on your thermostat

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok it is an ecobee.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

Thermostat is probably set up incorrectly to work with the system.Sounds like it is setup for heat pump.

I am sorry I have to run to an appointment do you know when you will online next?
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

I have to leave in a while to meet a power company rep on a job but will be back soon. Make sure the system selection is gas heat and not heat pump and probably this will solve your problem,If not we will go from here.
