i cut the wires running to my thermostat while the circuit breaker to the hvac unit was on. I reconnected everything and now it doesn't work. I fear that I fried a circuit board.

Since this a Carrier unit open blower door and check the fan board or the red wire going to transformer. There will be 3 or 5 amp auto type fuse inline or on the board. When you cut wires you b lew fuse. Russ
