Hi Billy my name is Ben. My A/C is blowing but not cool air. Is there something I can check first before calling in a repair guy?

Hello,
when the system is running, which includes indoor blower and the outdoor ac unit......feel the 2 pipes that enter the blower ac unit that come from outdoor unit.
One pipe has black rubber on it....move the rubber and then feel both pipes. Tell me if cool, warm, dry, wet, etc...
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
They're feel dry and slightly cool. Not wet or condensation.
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 1 year ago.
are they both the same temperature while the outdoor unit is running?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Very little difference but the smaller pipe feels slightly warmer then the isolated one. But they both feel room temp

Thank you.
I am afraid you will need a tech. The pipes even being close in temperature means:
Out of refrigerant or very low
compressor is not pumping as it should
electrically everything is working...it is a lack of heat transfer thus it is freon or compressor.
I apologize we can fix today...but this will need a tech as there is nothing you can do.

If it's the compressor is this something expensive?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Also should I turn the unit completely off until it's repaired?
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 1 year ago.
Yes, turn off unit.
This is a job could range from $120 - $800
Never know until the gages are put on.
