Customer Question

Hello -- I have a Trane XL80. Blower motor does not work. Outside unit runs. When I turn on stat, there is a humming noise -- like the motor is trying to start.

Tell me please if it is the fan on the outside unit, or blower on the inside unit that is not running. look for a run capacitor as pictured below, If you see one attached to your fan motor replace it ($6 or so) if that fails the bearings are bad.http://screencast.com/t/rUVSJINsIf you do not see a run capacitor, the fan motor is a variable speed type and probably needs a new end bell (full of electronics that fails a lot.) Let me know what you find, we can go from there.
