Sorry but one more question since you say outside. What is model on the unit? Is it a self contained packaged heat pump?

Yes, It is a self contained packaged heatpump. I can run up the road and get the model number. I have the manual with me. Its a Q7RD / PPH3rd Series


 

Excellent .You will want to wire as follows:

R from outdoor to R on thermostat (24v power)

E from outdoor to E on thermostat (Heat strips for emergency heat)

W2 from outdoor to AUX on thermostat(Heat strips for backup heat)

O from outdoor to O at thermostat(Reversing valve)

Y from outdoor to Y at thermostat(AC contactor)

C from outdoor to C at thermostat (24v Common)

Green wire from outdoor to G at thermostat (Blower motor)
