Carrier edge thermostat lost connection to HVAC unit show E1

CARRIER EDGE THERMOSTAT WAS REMOVED FOR PAINTING. WHEN REINSTALLED IT LOST COMMUNICATION WITH THE HVAC UNIT AND IS SHOWING AN E1. HOW DO I REESTABLISH COMMUNICATION? CHECKED VOLTAGE (2 WIRE SYSTEM WHICH CARRIES COMMUNICATION DATA) AND THE VOLTAGE IS GOOD.

There’s an small button at the bottom middle of the thermostat, push and hold for 30 seconds. May have to repeat twice, that will reboot thermostat.

Turn power of to outside and inside system for 2 minutes. Then turn back on and hold the button for at least 30 seconds. Release and see if it resets. You also may have to check to see if you put wires back in same location on thermostat
