Resolved Question:

I have a Coleman Evcon DGAT070BDC mobile home furnace

The problem only occurs when it is really cold outside. The heater kicks on and runs fine until desired temp is reached then shuts down no problem. then the second time it kicks on after cool down, the fan runs for about 15 seconds the stops, kicks on then stops, etc until the exchanger cools down. I replaced the fan limit switch but the problem continues. I jumped the thermostat and still has the same problem. Is there any thing else I can replace to fix this problem? Thanks for your input.

V12Tech :

was it this

V12Tech :

let me see if I can get a pic

V12Tech :

The motor could be doing this if its getting hot?

Customer:

The website you sent me has a whole page of parts on it

V12Tech :

lol

V12Tech :

sorry

V12Tech :

yes it sells them

Customer:

So you are saying replace the delay?

V12Tech :

yes

V12Tech :

the temperature delay or time delay

V12Tech :

i think temp

V12Tech :

must check

V12Tech :

Some had fan delay limits with time on temp off

V12Tech :

I will check

Customer:

Temp delay? What does it look like and where is it located?

V12Tech :

It will be round I believe

V12Tech :

still checking

V12Tech :

i second

V12Tech :

This controls the fan in heat mode

V12Tech :

Do you have AC

Customer:

No AC just heater?

V12Tech :

You may want to have the heat exchanger inspected if this was replaced and did this again

V12Tech :

There are cases of this, do you have the fan switch for auto or on for your thermostat

V12Tech :

Does your thermostat have a fan on position

Customer:

I have a on off switch on therastat

V12Tech :

Sorry my computer glitched

V12Tech :

Forthe unit, not fan correct?

V12Tech :

I wanted to see if fan on worked

Customer:

yes turns the stat off only

V12Tech :

if you had this option

V12Tech :

ok

V12Tech :

I am a bit worried aboout the exchanger

V12Tech :

Do you have a Co detector in the home?

Customer:

I dont see that part on unit only the limit switch

V12Tech :

its there

Customer:

Co detector does not go off!

V12Tech :

I will see if I casn find a pic

V12Tech :

Oh good you have one! exlnt

V12Tech :

I am looking for a better pic of unit

Customer:

I only see the limit switch in the fan housing

V12Tech :

still checking

V12Tech :

the fan wires go to it

V12Tech :

looking for pic

V12Tech :
This series furnace may have a recall listed to replace the heat exchanger .

Customer:

How would I find that out?

V12Tech :

The two recalls --attempt to beef up the inner walls and the replacement heat exchangers on the DGAA090 now require another part addition .
The point is the heat exchanger design is weak and YORK denies any problems.
Every furnace over 5 years of use in a northern zone should be inspected for heat cracks in the exchanger after every season .

V12Tech :

coleman or york

V12Tech :

I am reading diffent cersions of your furnace exist

V12Tech :

different versions , i type badly

Customer:

Ok I found too more switches in the exchange area.

V12Tech :

checking

V12Tech :

Safety Bulletin and it states models coleman,Coleman Evcon Red T model numbers DGAT070XXXAND DGAT075 NATURAL AND PROPANE have safety recalls .
These were manufactured 1997-1998-1999 .

V12Tech :

Still looking

Customer:

Mine is a Coleman Evcon DGAT070BDC So no recall?

V12Tech :

I am unsure

V12Tech :

It says some weak designs are suspect but not recalled?

V12Tech :

And inspect annually

V12Tech :

if you have a co detector its unlikly cracked

Customer:

So if I replace those 2 switches and it still does the same it will be the exchanger?

V12Tech :

That fan delay should normally fix the issue

V12Tech :

I have not found a good pic yet of unit

Customer:

Why does it only happen the second cycle? If it that delay it should do it on the first cycle too right?

V12Tech :

It is a bi metal and expands and contracts and they will do this

Customer:

oh I see

V12Tech :

its just 2 dissimilar metals with differing expansion rates so twists

Customer:

should I replace both?

V12Tech :

and cycling over time gets them weak, but this is not normal to switch them often did you swap this out before?

V12Tech :

Yes

V12Tech :

The parts are relatively inexpensive and its like a headlight on a 5 r old car

V12Tech :

the rest are right behind it

Customer:

no just replaced the fan limit switch

V12Tech :

I have replaced one light if not flush with cash but better to replace things so the same age

V12Tech :

Yes delay is the control

V12Tech :

on at 110F

V12Tech :

I think

V12Tech :

yes 110

V12Tech :

At least this is an easy fix

V12Tech :

They make time delays that avoid this issue

Customer:

one has a yellow sticker and one is blue

V12Tech :

not as inexpensive

V12Tech :

Humm not sure what that is

V12Tech :

I can see

Customer:

do you want the numbers that are on them?

V12Tech :

yes

V12Tech :

785-001 Automatic Pilot Relight Kit.

Pilot light reignitor kit automatic lights pilots that blow out. Operates on either 120 or 24 volt. Instructions show hooking up both power sources, but we'd recommend only hooking up 1 power source. Includes bracket for connecting sparker near pilot light. Removing burner/pilot assembly and drilling screw holes may be required. Also includes 105C appliance wire and ends (not shown) for connecting ignitor to power. This is an after-market part. Although frequently added to all types of appliances with pilot lights such as furnaces, water heaters, space heaters, dryers, stoves etc, most manufacturers do not recommmend using after-market add-ons and will general void any warranty. Replaces 7700AAF526. Your price $75.75.
