Customer Question

I am installing a Honeywell wall digital thermostat , model RTH2300/RTH221 Series. Need help with the wiring. When I disconnected it from the old digital thermostat(A White/Rogers model F179), I did not label it. the wires I disconnected are orange, brown, green, white, yellow, and red(kinda pink really). A blue wire was there but not used. How do I wire this to the new?

Note: I would have labeled this but I thought the letters on the unit(B, O, G, Y, etc) stood for colors.

Hello,

did old thermostat have an E terminal hooked up?

Customer replied 206 days and 1 hours ago.

I do not recall seeing an E on the old unit(I am not with the old unit now).

Thank you.

The wire open for discussion is the brown.

Red to R with Rc jumper
White to W
Yellow to Y
Green to G
Orange to O/B
Blue not hooked up.
And quite possibly brown not hooked up if it were on T or L

Billy

Ps, dont forget to setup in the menu for heat pump.

I have an O and a B. How do I know which to connect the orange to? Also, someone also told me I could trace the wires back to the source on the unit and see what colors are with what letters. Is this easily done?

From what you have told me, the letters appear to correspond with colors.

The orange will go to O terminal UNLESS you have an outdoor unit that is made by Rheem or Ruud.

The B would be used if you have one of those 2.

And yes it is possible to back track the wires to their origin to see if letters/colors are the same.
