Customer Question

I have a programmable thermostat that is set for A/C. There is a message in the middle that says "In Recovery" and a flashing message to the right that says "Cool On".

The temperature is set to 72 degrees, and currently reading 74 indoors. I have verified that the outdoor fan is running. What does this mean?

Optional Information:
Brand: Trane
Type of HVAC: Thermostat Control

Already Tried:
replaced the battery. Switched control from auto to on. Siwtched cooling off, then back on.

Sorry chat mode not working on my end

It means that the thermostat turn on cooling most likely thru adaptive learning and its trying to bring house down to setpoint which is 72 according to you, depending on size of house and current heat load it may not recover too quickly

Customer replied 292 days and 6 hours ago.

Sorry but I don't understand. What is adaptive learning? Why doesn't the thermostat just start cooling whenever the temp is higher than the setpoint?

Also, since I first submitted my question, "Cool ON" has stopped flashing and is steady on, the "In Recovery" message has disappeared, and the home is now cooled to 72. I just want to understand what happened because I've never seen that message before and I've had this system for 5 years. Thanks - Dave

You can go into programming and turn adaptive learning off which would make it run as normal thermostatAdaptive thermostat try to adjust ahead of time to be sure its at temperature you set in program is achievedRick Mather41117.925734294
