I have a BRYANT home AC unit model 561cj060-h.When I turn it on the outside unit makes a buzzing sound. The fan turns weakly for a minute and then the unit shuts down. What do I need to fix?

Hi. I'm Joe and I will be glad to help you out.
This sounds like you have a bad dual run capacitor. If you remove the service panel, you should see something that looks like a silver soda can with wires coming out of the top. Normally when they go bad, they will become dome shaped on the end with the wires, but sometimes they will look normal and still be bad.
To figure out what kind you need, you will need to remove the bracket holding it and look for a Uf rating on the side. You should see something like 35/5Uf. You can get these at any local hvac or electrical supply house. Or I can find you one online if you would like.
Replacing these is simply wire for wire, however you will have 3 different terminals marked C, F and HERM. Just note what wires go to which terminal and you will be good to go.
Please just reply back if you have any questions. Thanks

Ok
IS the service panel on the main body of the unit or on a smaller box to the side?
ok give me a few mins to llok at it
so your fairly sure it isnt the fan motor itself?
Sorry, I didn't see your replys til now. It is possible that the fan motor is bad, but with the buzzing noise, it sounds more like a capacitor and unless you have a meter that will read microfarads, you won't be able to tell for sure. Capacitor is more common and it is a lot cheaper, so it's worth replacing this first to see if it fixes it.
Safety concerns?
Just make sure that the power is off to the outdoor unit and to be on the safe side, take an insulated screwdriver and ground the terminals to each other. Sometimes there is a slight electrical charge left in the capacitor after the power is shut off, but if it is, it wouldn't be enough to hurt you. It would just scare you, so ground out those terminals to be safe.
That worked perfectly. The capacitor was bowed out on top just like you predicted. Just got a new one and had it installed in minutes. House cooling off nicely. Thank you very much!
That's great! Glad I could help
